Project Manager

LOCATION: Springfield

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Investigation and Remediation Manager, the Project Manager position is responsible for managing a variety of projects including, but not limited to, regulatory compliance, field operations, tank closures, site investigations, remediation, and emergency response.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify, assess, and resolve environmental problems for company clients.
  • Perform various types of field work, including planning work scope and supervising crews and subcontractors.
  • Complete sampling, manage data, and prepare reports.
  • Review and interpret regulatory issues, specifically air, water, and hazardous/solid waste management.
  • Complete site investigations and remediation projects.
  • Design, install, operate, and maintain systems to monitor discharges and pollutants.
  • Manage multiple complicated tasks.
  • Manage client relations and understand the client’s technical, regulatory, and fiscal goals.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, and maintain a full understanding of contract terms and conditions.
  • Responsible for project profitability.
  • Recognize and close business opportunities.
  • Complete and present proposals.
  • Respond and manage emergency responses, as needed.
  • Manage underground storage tank (UST) removals.
  • Handle waste for remediation, sampling, packaging, and labeling various wastes that may contain petroleum, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOC), semi- volatile organic compounds (SVOC), paint, solvents, wastewater sludge, and more.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Travel up to 50%.
  • Required to maintain a billability rate of 80%.
  • Required to work an average of 45 hours per week.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established OSHA and company requirements.
  • Required to follow safety standards. Required to wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions - such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures - for long periods of time is possible. This employee will be required to demonstrate continued knowledge of HAZWOPER and OSHA regulations and requirements. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required. Sitting 75% and standing/walking 25%.  

SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or an Environmental related field is required.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or an Environmental related field is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of environmental experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
  • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
  • Superior research and technical writing skills are required.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps is required.
  • Clear understanding of standard operating procedures, safety requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements needed to fully plan and implement all aspects of projects for which this position is responsible for.
  • Has the capability to achieve the client’s technical, regulatory, and fiscal goals in a timely manner. Exhibits ability to make competent decisions.
  • Able to project, identify, and utilize all resources needed to complete a project.
  • Demonstrates self-directed, proficient technical writing and data interpretation skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with team, client, regulators, and others as necessary to manage the project.
  • Comprehends the client’s needs, regulations, and EWI’s capabilities as they apply to their projects.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • High energy and superb follow-through is required.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Required to posses a valid driver license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
