EWI Announces Exciting Contract Wins and Project News during First Quarter 2010!

EWI announces multiple contract wins and exciting project news during first quarter 2010.

Large Scale Demolition Project, Major Rail Carrier - EWI was awarded a contract by a major rail carrier for the demolition of a 400,000 square foot building located in a major railyard in Springfield, Missouri.  In addition to the building demolition, this project will also involve the management of asbestos containing materials, lead-based paint, and other contaminated building components.  The project is notable both for its size and complexity, and also for the fact that EWI plans to salvage and recycle 90 to 95 percent of the demolished material.

Removal / Demolition of Large Storage Tanks, U.S. Bureau of Prisons - EWI received a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) contract that will include the environmental cleanup and removal / demolition of two existing 225,000-gallon diesel fuel oil storage tanks at the US Penitentiary (USP) Leavenworth in Kansas.  Under the contract, EWI will clean, remove, and dispose of two existing 225,000-gallon above ground diesel storage tanks.  EWI will remove any existing fuel and residue from the tanks, clean, and permanently seal all abandoned underground lines.  In addition, EWI will level existing earthen berm and ensure / certify the work area is environmentally clean.  The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has jurisdiction over the property.  All plans must be pre-approved by KDHE and the State Fire Marshall prior to any work being completed.

Debris / Waste Removal & Disposal, Fort Leonard Wood, U.S. Army Base - During first quarter 2010, EWI’s Field Services Group completed a significant debris/waste removal and disposal project at an abandoned metal debris landfill site on a U.S Army base in Missouri.

EWI removed approximately 100 tons of recyclable metals and 10 tons of solid waste debris located along the parameter and on top of the landfill.  EWI also properly disposed of the collected solid waste and recycled all the recovered metal.  In addition, EWI conducted limited backfill activities along the slope of the landfill and installed seed, straw mat, and silt fence for erosion control.  EWI personnel operated a variety of heavy equipment to successfully complete the project including a skid steer loader, tracked excavator, and dump trucks.

Despite facing snow and rain delays and changing work site conditions, EWI conducted this project in a timely and highly efficient manner which met the client’s timeline and budget.  EWI worked diligently to quickly complete the work and successfully coordinated with the client as needed.  The client was impressed with EWI’s successful completion of this project.
