EWI To Provide Environmental Services in Kansas City's Green Impact Zone

Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) was recently selected to provide environmental services for a model home renovation project in Kansas City’s Green Impact Zone.  The Green Impact Zone (GIZ) is a federal project that is directing funding from a variety of programs and agencies into a tightly targeted 150 block area within Kansas City’s urban core – with the goal of greatly improving the environmental sustainability and quality of life in the zone.

One of the first projects in the GIZ is the renovation of a 100-year-old house in the area into a model home showing a variety of state-of-the-art sustainability improvements that homeowners in the GIZ can apply in their own homes.  EWI will assist initially by providing asbestos and lead-based paint assessment and management, as well as interior demolition services with additional services likely to follow in later stages of the project.

Since the GIZ initiative was announced last year, the project has hosted visits by the Secretaries of Transportation, Energy, and Housing & Urban Development; the Governor of Missouri, and members of Missouri’s Congressional delegation.  The project was also mentioned in President Obama’s last State of the Union address.

Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) is a full-service, certified woman-owned environmental consulting and contracting firm that has built a strong reputation for providing expert, turnkey solutions to both public and private-sector clients.  EWI was founded in 1992 by company owner and president, Robin Melton.  The firm quickly became an industry leader with an impressive list of clients including BNSF Railway Company, Bass Pro Shops, Inc., Commerce Bank, Alcatel-Lucent Technologies, Tracker Marine, and a host of other local, regional, and national companies.
