13 Bank Properties - Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska
Project Description
A regional bank client was presented with the opportunity to acquire additional branches in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. The bank contracted EWI to assess the environmental risk associated with purchasing 13 of these properties in an expedited manner.
The scope of work included the preparation of 13 Phase I ESA reports in accordance with ASTM E1527-05, with the inspections for asbestos and mold as additional considerations. Limited Phase II investigations were also requested simultaneously and included the collection of soil and groundwater samples from each property submitted for analysis for volatile organic compounds, petroleum constituents and metals.
EWI was contracted on a Friday to perform this work and scheduled site inspections and drilling activities to begin the following Monday to accommodate the urgency of the project. EWI personnel gathered historical information regarding the previous uses of these properties on an expedited schedule in order to provide field personnel conducting the Phase II work with the information necessary to select the most appropriate areas for soil and/or groundwater sampling.
Petroleum impacted soil was identified at one of the branches likely caused by its previous use as a filling station. EWI corresponded with Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) regarding reporting and investigation requirements on behalf of the client.
Project Accomplishments
Four of these reports for critical properties were submitted to the client within 2 weeks of the initiation of work while the remaining 9 reports were submitted within 30 days. EWI remained in close contact with the client throughout the completion of these assessments to keep them informed of findings that could potentially impair their acquisition of the properties.
Due to EWI’s quick action, experience, and resourcefulness, the client was able to make an informed decision regarding the environmental risk in purchasing these properties, ultimately resulting in their ability to expand their business within the desired timeframe.
