Abandoned Metal Debris Landfill Site - Fort Leonard Wood, MO

Project Description
A worldwide construction and environmental contracting corporation hired EWI for surface debris removal services at the FLW-019 Landfill Site, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. EWI removed approximately 100 tons of recyclable metals and 10 tons of solid waste debris located along the perimeter and on top of the abandoned metal debris landfill. EWI also properly disposed of the collected solid waste and recycled all the recovered metal.

EWI personnel operated a variety of heavy equipment to successfully complete the project. A tracked excavator with a hydraulic thumb was used to liberate and segregate the material on the slopes. EWI utilized a skid steer loader in order to transfer the material from the excavator to the rolloff boxes that were located adjacent to the road. The skid steer loader with a rock bucket attachment was also used to remove surficial debris from the top of the landfill. EWI installed a gravel access road along the north side of the existing fence to aid in the removal of debris.

EWI conducted limited backfill activities along the slope of the landfill using two tracked excavators, a tracked loader, and dump trucks. Backfill soil was then loaded from a soil stockpile located at Fort Leonard Wood and transferred to the FLW-019 Landfill Site. EWI equipment operators utilized heavy equipment to consolidate debris and backfill the slope under the direction of ECC personnel. Following backfill activities, EWI installed seed, straw mat, and silt fence for erosion control.
