EWI President Featured During AOMA Annual Environmental Workshop

On Thursday, August 27, 2015, EWI President Jason Smith was featured on a panel of industry experts for the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association (AOMA) annual Environmental Workshop.  The panel fielded questions from the 80+ attendees regarding recent issues they’ve encountered in the field, how EPA’s recent changes to the UST regulations will financially impact tank owners, how to manage faulty equipment and leak reporting, and how to properly manage fuel and water found in spill buckets & sumps. Mr. Smith additionally fielded questions from operators with sites in both Missouri and Arkansas to discuss how these two states’ funding mechanisms for remedial tank cleanups differ and how to ensure that sites in each state maintain eligibility for Fund reimbursement.   Fellow panelists included Nathan Huggins with Arkansas Petroleum Solutions, Jim Cheevers with Arkansas Testing Services, Heather Pettus with SEMs Inc, and Barry Winningham of The Southern Company of NLR.

AOMA sponsors the annual workshop to present current environmental topics to those involved in the Arkansas petroleum industry, including bulk facility owners and personnel, convenience store owners and employees, fuel distributors, equipment and service suppliers, and consultants.  Topics for this year’s workshop included the 2015 EPA UST regulation changes and the Arkansas Regulated Storage Tank Divisions’ adoption process for these new regulations; recent changes to requirements for integrity testing for facilities with Spill Prevention, Controls, & Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans; Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); new Minor Source Air Permitting requirements for emergency generators; and common issues encountered during UST system inspections and Bureau of Standards fuel quality inspections.

The 2016 AOMA Environmental Workshop will be held on August 25, 2016.
