POSITION SUMMARY:
An Environmental Scientist combines understanding of team and task management as well as scientific principles and regulatory requirements to support project management of all day-to-day activities associated with managing/implementing environmental investigation and remediation projects. An experienced Environmental Scientist manages data acquisition, validation and evaluation and helps to develop work plans and proposals for various project-related tasks. They provide oversight and support for the implementation of field investigation and the production of written and verbal technical reports which are provided to senior project manager, clients, regulatory agencies and or other project stakeholders. Environmental Scientist are part of a project management team which is responsible for developing cost estimates and implanting projects according the contracted scope and budget. This person operates with an “all-hands-on-deck” mentality to ensure client satisfaction and a high level of quality in completion of assigned projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Communicate directly with technical support staff, regulators, clients, and other stakeholders in the field and office.
- Understand analytical results from air, vapor, water, groundwater, waste disposition, and soil data. Conduct Level 2 data validation on analytical reports.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory permits and implementation of approved work plans for all field activities.
- Serve as a lead when working in the field with technicians, provide oversight, and complete documentation of subcontractor activities.
- Use of scientific instruments and evaluation of associated data.
- Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Oversee remediation activities; including but not limited to: water treatment operations, maintenance of pumping wells, installation of monitoring wells, drilling investigations, surveying, soil sampling, packaging, and shipping.

- Ability to conduct data validation on laboratory reports.
- Understanding of overarching components of mechanical and electronic remediation systems and functionality.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
- This is a full-time position. Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- For insurability purposes a valid Driver’s License is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Scientific, Engineering, or related discipline is required.
- Five (5) years environmental consulting experience required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency with project management software, budget tracking and scheduling software preferred.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certified strongly preferred.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Oversee proper waste management including storing, labeling, and characterization for disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous/special waste.
- With support of technical engineering staff, provide technical summaries and recommendations to maintenance and improvement of mechanical and electronic systems including pumps, remediation systems, and monitoring equipment.
- Research information and compile reports such as conceptual site models, status reports/memorandum, permit or regulatory-based compliance reporting, and associated risk-based evaluation.
- Request information from various governmental and regulatory organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

This is a largely sedentary role; however the employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
