POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sonic Drill Operator will report to the Drilling Department Manager on daily operation and project progress. This position is in charge of ensuring sonic drilling operations are executed in accordance with the drilling plan from implementation, completion and abandonment of drill sites. The Driller works with the crew in preparing the equipment and site for the drilling operation, setup and breakdown of drilling sites, which includes repetitive bending, lifting and climbing which may be done on a daily basis. This individual promotes safety, reports safety problems, incidents, accidents, or irregularities. Acts as a team leader for drilling crews.

- Ability and knowledge to operate sonic drill rig and other drilling equipment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to maneuver in small areas.
- Maintains daily drilling field reports.
- Checks and maintains equipment in good and safe repair, reports equipment not in such condition.
- Performs preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisors and prepares documentation.
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties in field or shop as directed by supervisors.
- Is a crew leader, training and mentoring employees while maintaining a safe environment.
- Complete well logs, logbook, repair orders, DVIR inspection sheet and tailgate meeting forms.
- Maintain positive relationship with client.
- Manage the work site activity.
- Continuous study of SDS and JSA’s.
- Maintain all certifications.
- Train crew members as needed.
COMPETENCIES:
- Familiarity Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPPER).
- Mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair issues related to small diesel engines and hydraulic power systems.
- Must be able to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and assignments.
- Knowledge of industry practices related to drilling, installing monitoring wells, grouting wells, developing wells, collecting soil samples and drill rig maintenance.
- The ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work as a team and learn new skills is a requirement.
- Knowledge of sonic drilling technology/methods.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position and you will be a ROAD WARRIOR. You will be on the road working on projects across the United States. Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- For insurability purposes a valid Driver’s License is required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) years’ experience operating a sonic drill rig required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Class A CDL strongly preferred.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certified strongly preferred.
- Environmental Works Inc. completes Emergency Response work ranging from small to large scales. The ability to respond/be on-call 24/7 is preferred, but not required for this position.
- Experience operating skid loaders, mini-excavators, or similar equipment is a plus.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed mostly in an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures for long periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. Work in diverse environments such as confined spaces, various heights, and storage tanks. Work outdoors in all weather conditions; extreme heat, cold, dry or wet environment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to regularly lift and carry 50 pounds. Sitting 10%, standing/walking 90%.
